Scope and Topics

The Semantic Web technologies are, after a few years of immaturity, actually entering both the academic and business world to support the growing needs of computer-aided information selection and processing. At the same time, Smart Services are becoming more and more important to define and provide user experiences.

By exploiting the knowledge (structured, semi-structured and unstructured) available on the social networking, media-sharing, social bookmarking systems, etc ... these intelligent and personalised services are able to deliver multimedia experiences giving to the user the right, easy-to-use and intuitive mechanisms to project his/her feelings in the system. In this context, the ontologies play a fundamental role both in development-time and run-time. Their usage also leads to new software architectures, especially in the field of distributed systems.

This special session aims at sharing innovative ontology-based solutions for the analysis, design, implementation, orchestration, provisioning, etc. of Smart Services from both the academic and industrial world, especially in e-science, e-learning and enterprise 2.0 fields. Therefore, we also welcome research and experiences on participatory and evolutionary approaches (i.e., with a high degree users’ involvement) to building and maintaining the ontologies.
