Accomodation in Salerno
Erasmus students once arrived in Salerno may refer to AEGEE (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l'Europe) Salerno (http://www.aegeesalerno.org) which may help to find convenient accommodation. At present accommodation is only available in private rented rooms, the cost of a single room in a furnished flat is around € 250 per month, for a double room the price is around € 180 per month. Bills (gas, electricity, water) are not included. The price of accommodation located near the University of Salerno, which is around 13 km away from the centre, is 20% lower.
Living on Campus
Halls of Residence are made up of 282 rooms: 210 single rooms and 72 double and triple rooms.
Transport
The Fisciano and Baronissi Campuses have daily bus services to and from surrounding areas. The CSTP Bus Service goes to Salerno and to other towns in the province and offers a special price for a student season ticket. A free bus service runs on campus linking the different
University buildings.
The main bus stop in Salerno is situated in the piazza at the train Station. The bus number 7 leaves from the station to the University every 20 minutes from 6:40 to 19:25.
It is absolutely necessary to buy the ticket before getting on the bus.
Daily tickets and season tickets may be bought:
- at various tobacconists;
- at the Bus Terminal at the Fisciano Campus from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 7:15 p.m.;
• at the CSTP Office - piazza Matteo Luciani, 33 Salerno from Monday to Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Libraries
"Edoardo R. Caianello" Library
library holds around 450.000 books and 5.000 journals, of which 3.000 are regularly subscribed to. The books are arranged in an open-stack system, giving readers free access to the collections and to the 18 reading rooms (divided by subject-area), in which students may either work alone or discuss in groups. The integrated catalogue, fully computerized using Aleph software, includes over 310,000 bibliographical items: it may be consulted online or at the self-service desks in the Catalogue room. Recently a new link has been set up (by clicking biblioteche on the university web site), which gives access to other resources, document delivery services and information about aids to bibliographical research both national andinternational (opac, metaopac, online collections, etc.). A multimedial room with twelve workstations is open to the public, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 1 pm.
Science Library
The library (situated at the Baronissi campus) holds books dealing with the Sciences. It holds 40.000 books and 370 current periodicals. This library also offers free online consultation of books and journals, both Italian and foreign, useful to students studying in this area. The library has two reading rooms.

Catering
The University offers a catering services at the Fisciano Campus. the canteen is open for lunch from 12:30 to 3 pm from Monday to Friday. The prices are kept low and a full meal costs around € 2.50. There are also other services around the campus where food and drink is on sale for most of the day.
The chapel
Within the university there is a catholic chapel, which is open every day.

Language Centre
The language centre organises courses and practice sessions for the teaching of foreign languages in its multimedia and audiovisual rooms, either with a teacher or on a self-access basis.
Computer rooms are available to international students here.
The language centre is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm.
Computers and Internet
All international students have free access to internet through the Campus WLAN.
Computer rooms are situated in many laboratories and in the Language Centre.
Theatre
The theatre can seat 300 and it is fitted with the most up-to-date theatrical and acoustic equipment.
Foreign students may also take part free of charge in the Drama School.
This takes place from October through March, twice a week from 2 pm to 6 pm.
"Auditions" for admission to the school will be held on October 15.
Sport
The university has a sports centre, run by the C.U.S. (Centro Universitario Sportivo) enabling students to exercise on campus.
The Fisciano campus offers:
- a covered swimming pool
- two five-a-side astroturf football grounds
- a hard tennis court
- an astroturf ground for different sports complete with changing-rooms
- a cycling and running track
The Baronissi campus (5 km from Fisciano) offers:
- two "Pilotis" gyms for such activities as Aerobics, Step aerobics, Body
building, Table tennis, etc.
- a sports hall with a 1200 square metre surface for Aerobics, Step aerobics,
Spinning, Basket ball, Volley ball
- an open air basket ball ground
A fee of € 11 is charged to join the sports centre and a health certificate is required, as well as two passport-size photos.
In Salerno there are also various public and private sports centres, some of which have agreements with the CUS as to prices. These offer activities such as athletics, football, volley ball, basket ball, swimming, roller skating, fencing, archery....
Music
The University of Salerno is keen to encourage students to learn and play music; participants are of an international level and include teaching and administrative staff, as well as students.
Every year, thanks to the 'Musicateneo' Association and other groups of teachers and students involved, the university forms an orchestra made up of Erasmus students and given the name "Erasmus Band"; they regularly take part in concerts and festivals in Italy and abroad, as do the other university orchestras:
- The "Camerata strumentale"
- The "Principe Sanseverino" vocal ensemble
- The New Jazz Orchestra
- The "Musicateneo Big Band"
- The "Musicateneo Percussion ensemble"
- The "Jazz Orchestra"
The 'Musicateneo' Association has also produced two CDs, called Take the U Train and Next Station.
Other musical events include:
- Courses in jazz improvisation
- "Campusinfesta", a festival of folk music
- "Live at Fisciano Village", a festival of all kinds ofuniversity bands
During the academic year concerts, seminars and master-classes are organised, with the participation of musicians of international fame.
Disabled students
The "Diritto allo Studio" office offers the following facilities to disabled students:
- accompaniment and assistance at lectures
- administrative assistance
- special equipment depending on their disabilities (scanners, software jaws, taping of text books, etc.)
The coordinator delegated by the Rector for this purpose and the different faculty coordinators are the contacts for disabled students.
Bookshops
There are two cooperatives on the Fisciano Campus providing such services as photocopying, word-processing and printing, as well as functioning as bookshops and stationers. Both provide students with a membership card giving them discounts on books and stationery.
The CUES is situated in the lobby of the Faculty of Engineering and is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
The CUSL is situated on the ground floor of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy and is open Monday to Thursday from 8.30am to 1.30pm, then from 2.30 to 4.30pm; Fridays from 8.30am to 1.30pm.

A branch of theUNICREDIT is open to the public Monday to Friday from 8.25am to 1.35pm, then from 2.55 to 3.45pm.
The Post Office is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 1.30pm, then from 2 to 3.10pm.

The Medical Centre
There is a multifunctional Healthcare Centre on Campus offering students general medical care (but also equipped for accident and emergency) which is open Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 7 pm.
Specialist care includes medical examinations and a range of diagnostic and laboratory tests.
These specialist services and examinations (dentist, dermatologist, gynecologist, oculist, ears nose and throat) are available by appointment by calling the Health Department's call centre at 089/255400.
Specialist examinations are free for students.
A Police Station is also situated on campus next to the Bank; it is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 2pm, then again in the afternoon from 3 to 6pm.

Car parks
The university has a total of 1500 parking spaces for students. There is no charge.
